Subject to planning approval, Evans Homes will be building 213 new homes as part of the first phase of housing at the site of the old Skelton Gate colliery in the Leeds Aire Valley. The company’s plans for the development feature a mixture of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes offering a collection of 12 different house designs. Of the 213 properties, 15 per cent will be designated to affordable housing.

The Skelton development will be the second scheme developed by Evans Homes after the housebuilder launched Regency Place in Tockwith, near York, earlier this year. Four and five bedroom homes available in the first phase at Tockwith are selling fast.

Evans Director, John Carter, said: “Skelton is an exciting development for the Evans Property Group, in partnership with Keyland Developments. If the plans submitted by Evans Homes are approved, groundworks are set to start this autumn with the first homes expected to be ready to move into in spring 2023.’’

Formerly an open cast colliery in the Leeds Aire Valley, and located just off Pontefract Lane on Skelton Lane, the Skelton development has been master-planned by Templegate Developments Ltd, a joint venture between Evans Property Group and Keyland Developments. Plans are to create a community of 1,800 new homes, a primary and secondary school, public open space, a local centre and a convenience store.
